Father’s Day has passed, but the advice that Steve Thomas of Mennonite Men shares in his blog, “Fathers” continues to encourage fathers to build loving relationships with their children. Read his advice here: mennoniteusa.org/fathers

At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gwen Gustafson-Zook walked into a yarn shop and came to the realization that knitting would be the key to getting her through this difficult season. See how she uses knitting as a spiritual practice in her Menno Snapshots blog, “Stitch by stitch: Knitting as a spiritual practice.” mennoniteusa.org/knitting-spiritual-practice

Political Will

As the predicted effects of climate change are increasing, the time for being able to slow, stop, or reverse the trend is shrinking. Political will is essential to muster resources and action. Speak up now. Email or call your lawmakers. Sign petitions. Support candidates who will fight for planet and people.

At the Beach

Vacation at the beach! The ocean and other large bodies of water are beautiful, but … look closely and litter mars the view. Along with your beach gear, take some bags and pick up the trash you see. Perhaps other beach goers will pick up the idea from your example.

MCC Thrifty 50 Challenge

Do you want to help our planet but aren’t sure where to start? MCC (Mennonite Central Committee) Thrift is celebrating their 50th anniversary by issuing 50 challenges to help us be more equipped to care for our planet. We’ll include one challenge each week for the next 50 weeks.

Week 5 | Start your own vegetable garden

Kitchen Tip of the Week

Know what’s in your fridge, freezer, and pantry. Keeping a list of what you have in your fridge and freezer can prevent you from holding the door open while you try to figure out what to cook or what you need to pick up on a shopping trip. And for those items with shorter life spans, keep them in one area as a “use first” station to cut down on food waste.
