How to Participate in the 2017 MCUSA Convention

Kay K News

MCUSA Convention 2017 is upon us. Ric is there in Orlando representing NSMC as our pastor, our delegate, and our official eyes and ears for convention. Ric has already been sharing his thoughts with us as convention has begun and suggested a link for convention updates, listed below. Janelle and Omar are at convention participating in adult worship and activities. Shelly and Ta’sharick are there participating in youth worship and activities. How can we be present at convention? How can we participate from afar?

We can follow some of the updates at the links below. We can also hold in prayer many people at this time—those working at convention, those attending convention, and also those who have chosen to stay away. Let’s pray especially for those who have not felt welcome at MCUSA gatherings in recent years, that they would feel God’s presence at this time and find a place in some faith community in the future. And, let’s also allow ourselves to be challenged by what we experience in the following sources:

  • Start at the convention website, proceed through the homepage to learn about the Future Church Summit, read or subscribe to the daily newsletter, subscribe to the convention blog, and find more official posts.
  • Interested in videos of youth and adult worship speakers? Click on Resources at the top right of the homepage, then Speaker Videos in the drop-down box. Paying $19.99 once gets you unlimited access to all worship speakers (Adult and Youth Worship services), including downloads.
  • Facebook: search Mennonite Church USA Convention for live streaming of speakers. Check convention schedule for times.
  • Facebook: search MCUSA for public posts from groups affiliated with MCUSA, such as Brethren Mennonite Council for LGBT Interests, Marginal Mennonite Society, Mennonite Creation Care Network, DOOR, etc….
  • Ric recommends the blog of Hilary Watson, pastor at Lombard Mennonite Church.
