Gleaning at Prairie Crossing

Rebecca K News

Every Sunday afternoon through the summer, the Prairie Crossing farm opens up its fields for gleaning. Volunteers are welcome to join the gleaning, starting at either 1:00pm, 2:00pm, or 3:00pm. Please meet at the yellow farmhouse at Prairie Crossing, Grayslake.

The Prairie Crossing Farm is a working organic farm, and for-profit organic farmers have invited volunteers into their fields to harvest the extra produce. The gleaning program promotes healthy eating by providing fresh organic vegetables to those who might otherwise have difficulty accessing them, and it provides a meaningful volunteer experience. Volunteers harvest and package the produce, which is picked up by either the Avon Township Food Pantry or the COOL Food Pantry. It’s a great way to volunteer and know you’re making a difference in our community!
